Aheh or Eheh or Eh Eh or Eh are often heard when talking to the Naija....

A sign of confirm or mere saying "I hear you and understand".

Come to think of it, everyone does it... No? Different sound, same meaning...I use "ek" or "uhuh" or even "mmmhmmmm" a lot!

NIGERIA: Lagos: Tarkwa Bay with the Saifuddeens (June 2016)

Another long overdue post. Just before the school summer break. Another trip to Tarkwa Bay, Lagos in order before fasting month and our trip back home to Malaysia. We love the beach here and Tarkwa Bay reminds us of our own Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan. Long beach and shallow water until you're quite a distance. This time we took Saifuddeen's family and Saisha (Fay's bestie)
ready for some sand and sun

The boat ride was about 15 -20 minutes and I took along my tennis coach too! He's a Lagos lad and knows a few people at Tarkwa Bay. Why? The moment we set foot on the beach...throngs of children and some adult would want to carry your stuffs to their beach gazebo. Lucky for us, we had called our contact in advance at the beach. So we were ushered to his gazebo...cost varies. Like our last visit, per chair was about 1,500 - 2,500N each! They throw in a 'bbq set', fuel and charcoal for free...

The weather was perfect...sunny but not too hot. I don't recall if Lagos was ever 'too' hot, either. The water was great and a huge breakwater structure by the bay ensured the wave was just nice. I do love big waves, but at least for a parent like me.....the children will be ok.

Every time we were in Tarkwa Bay, this RO-RO and container vessel would be passing the area. Grimaldi Lines owned by the group of the same name made Naples,Italy as their base. The company founded in 1947 has written history linking the family to the shipping business as early as 1348.

One note to would be visitors to Tarkwa Bay are the people trying to sell you table cloth, souvenirs, food etc. Some would hang about your gazebo but don't worry, don't take much notice about them. Tell them nicely that you don't need anything. Try not to touch any of the wares because they would come again and again with different things to sell you until you buy something from them and more....

That's how things are here...embrace it or be stress about it. Whatever it is, try to enjoy and soak up the atmosphere at the beach. There will be ad hoc dancing and people playing football. The beach was empty when we arrived, but the crowd began to arrive right after lunch.

The boat captain came to fetch us at around 5pm. The phone signal at the bay wasn't that good, so we had informed him when he left us there in the morning. Next trip would be the beach hut again...it has been a year since the last trip. Will update when we get there....soon, I hope.
