Aheh or Eheh or Eh Eh or Eh are often heard when talking to the Naija....

A sign of confirm or mere saying "I hear you and understand".

Come to think of it, everyone does it... No? Different sound, same meaning...I use "ek" or "uhuh" or even "mmmhmmmm" a lot!

NIGERIA: Lagos: Friends

A batch of young guys are coming to our place for makan-makan (eat). Madam (Allah bless her) had slaved from morning preparing dishes for our guests. But before they arrived, we had a very  surprise visitor, MJ and his family. They came to our apartment, with red velvet cup cakes and in ...... wait for it......FULL Malay attire! Well done! Only it's a day early. The Malaysian community in Lagos will celebrate Eid ul-Adha tomorrow, together. That was the arrangement. Anyway, we had fun having lunch with all 3 rambunctious boys, Noah, Jack and Ali.

Tuoyo, Boye and Lanray
Deyo with Tuoyo's daughter
At about 4pm, Tuoyo arrived with his wife and daughter. Boye arrived next...alone. Lanray came with his son, wife and younger brother and lastly, it was Deyo. We talked about very broad subjects like education, geography, my trips and of course the weather. Since we came back, it had rained almost on daily basis. It was different last year. August to October were pretty normal...moderate rain and then it was already Harmattan (click here).

We talked about the South South and South East and of course the Delta region/states. I do get the states in each of the geopolitical zone, but when it comes to the Delta States, adding some from the South East (Imo and Abia) and South West (Ondo) to the rest, from South South......hmmmm never mind. Anyway, it was great fun telling those guys about the trip to Abeokuta, the Alake's palace (click here) and of course the famed Olumo Rock (click here). I also mentioned about how fertile the land is in Ogun state.

Tarang dropped by to say hi
Politics had been the most exciting topic, fyi the radio network here in Nigeria....well, I can say in Lagos it's on a daily basis to have shows or talkshows on politics and current events. Any decent Nigerian would never back down from giving opinion and express their pleasure and displeasure towards the government or the opposition. Of course the shows would be something like a very loud talking contest, but they get their point across either the other person would want to hear or not. At least they got it off their chest. No wahala...

We had suya for dinner, fried rice and some curry puffs among others. In addition to the group, we called up Brice and his wife up to our place. A very nice French guy with penchant for old and unique furnitures.

I think we had lots of tea or Lipton that day, which the locals call it. We consumed a lot too....almost 3 boxes of the small one on weekly basis if we have guests over to our place. Coffee, I can tell you there's no Starbucks, Gloria Jean, Coffee Bean, Coffea Coffee, Espressolab, Antipodean CafĂ©, Kluang Station......none of those, not even a Mamak restaurant here. So I brought my favorite coffee 434 all the way from Malaysia. So far we're good. Tried the 3in1 Nescafe here, but too creamy.

Tuoyo and wife
They guys plus an oyinbo...Brice
It has been a tradition of some sort that there will be at least a few rounds of foosball match, which Madam bought for herself. Ben and Madam played their heart out that night. Not my thing though as I was busy talking to Tuoyo about the blog. Things to do, the stats etc..etc..

The guys fortunately had a blast. At one time, Madam and Ben paired together against the men. Quote noisy, especially Madam....Deyo showed his skill playing the piano and before all of them left, we did a duet "Blue Moon". Somehow that was the end of the 'makan-makan'....it usually does. Just like at my dad's home...we played music together before we adjourn.

Anyway....it was fun, as usual. I wonder who will madam invite next... I can only guess.
