At long last, the family and also the replacement officer for the Malaysia Trade Office in Lagos has arrived. Yes, Saifuddin Khalid...the indefatigable Trade Commissioner for MATRADE, his assignment had come to an end. He was here for a while during the Ebola crisis and later had been instrumental in setting up the the MATRADE office in Lagos. All in all, 3 very colorful years with challenges which are very unique IMHO.

The officer replacing him, Khairy Maidin arrived with his family a few days earlier than the above photograph was taken. We had breakfast at Cactus Cafe, along the Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue. I was happy to meet him after our initial meeting in Malaysia sometime in June.
We invited Khairy and family over to our place and as it happens our High Commissioner was around in Lagos for an official visit. It was great to see Datuk Lim Juay Jin after my last visit in December last year to Abuja with Saifuddin.

Khairy's and Saifuddin's Madam... |
It was sad to see Saifuddin had to go, but duty calls. So like truly Malaysians we are, we had arrange for "makan-makan" (eat). Kak Puspa (another Malaysian living in Lagos) suggested that it should be done at our place...and we're totally OK about it.
Kak Puspa brought Nasi Lemak and sambal ikan bilis (anchovies), while Huda and Madam both made fried Mee Hoon. It was nice...for the next few hours, we created our own Malaysia far away from home. Since we will be celebrating our National Day on the 31st August, it was a 2in1 event.

I can almost hear Kak Puspa's protest that Saifuddin got a whole post to himself. ahahahahah... Anyway, it was a privilege to get to know you and to have you as my breakfast buddy. At least in my defense, I would say it was your fault that I added kilos to my weight in Lagos. Please don't send pictures of our food in Malaysia to the WhatsApp group, or we will request Kak Mia in Abuja to kick you out! Hope to see you when we get back!
To Khairy and family, we wish you Selamat Datang, Welcome to Lagos, Nigeria. All the best in your role as the new TC in Lagos, Nigeria. Still covering 24 countries in West Africa? Good luck. HUUUUUUUGEEEEEEE responsibility. Btw, there's another person coming is it? Come come....
