Aheh or Eheh or Eh Eh or Eh are often heard when talking to the Naija....

A sign of confirm or mere saying "I hear you and understand".

Come to think of it, everyone does it... No? Different sound, same meaning...I use "ek" or "uhuh" or even "mmmhmmmm" a lot!

NIGERIA: Lagos: Eid al-Kabir (Part 2)

In the earlier post, I mentioned the Eid gathering of Malaysians in Lagos. Just a small get together, pot luck style. Most of us here in Lagos are just a few kilometres apart but to  meet up regularly is another matter. All caught up with work, children's activities, other function and in the case of Mogan and Karthig....either they were assigned outside Lagos for a period of time or just a simple case of being too busy to meet up. I suspect Mogan bar hopping all over Lagos...Island and Mainland included (yes, there's two parts of Lagos...another post..maybe)

Btw, when Madam expressed her intention to have a makan-makan (eating) session during Eid....I was unsure it would happen at all. I just love to tease her. I excel in doing just that. Without our helper at home (we gave her off day for Eid), she would struggle. But she can cook pretty well since we moved to Lagos. I love her Nasi Minyak or butter rice with some spice added to it. Maybe this time, this time it will be a breeze for her.

Well done, Madam!
Ladies in the kitchen.. Ida, Norhuda
and Dayang

This time around, Mogan and Karthig arrived first, apart from Mr Saifuddin which arrived in the morning with his family before we went to the mosque together. These two single men in Nigeria (only single here, not in Malaysia apparently) are always busy. Busy busy busy... "on standby" was the usual answer. Karthig is based in Ibadan and it was the first time we met.

The rest came just after 1pm, Pushpa and Shatish, Norhuda and her children. Amal (Huda's hubby) was in Lekki and will join us after he finishes with his qurban tasks. While the ladies busy preparing the meal, it was a chinwag and smoke session at the verandah with a healthy dose of the latest gossip from Malaysia...fb, Tun Mahathir's blog and WA from friends and relatives back home.

It's the flag of Amsterdam, mind you...

Just for a few hours, it was just like...home. We ate Nasi Minyak, Laksa Johor, Nasi Impit and Kuah Kacang. The ladies really did it. We topped it off with Teh Tarik ('Pulling Tea') by Pushpa (our resident chef and vet), karipap (curry puffs) and kuih kacang hijau which we brought from Malaysia. All home made, of course. Madam's parents operates a catering and frozen food business. So we stocked up pretty well last August.

Anyway, it was great fun to have friends over once awhile. After all, I wonder when will be the next time....

Amal (2nd from left) arrived..
