Aheh or Eheh or Eh Eh or Eh are often heard when talking to the Naija....

A sign of confirm or mere saying "I hear you and understand".

Come to think of it, everyone does it... No? Different sound, same meaning...I use "ek" or "uhuh" or even "mmmhmmmm" a lot!

NIGERIA: Lagos: Small Gathering

I look forward to the day when Madam said that she invited her colleagues over for dinner. I've met most of them during company functions in and outside of Lagos.

I will ask her, who's coming and she would describe them...their function within the organisation and when we last met. Camera helps too! I've participated some of the events and later would ask her..who is this? This? Why they like to wear very high heels? Anyway, this time around she invited Ngozi, Bimpe, Tolu with their respective husband and  lastly.....'the-still-looking-for-potential-bride' Dotun.

Ngozi and hubby arrived first...it was also their 8th wedding anniversary that night.

Bimpe, Tolu and Dotun arrived slightly later..

We had some tidbits at the balcony and free flow of drinks to loosen up before the heavy meal. Madam bought suya from the Ikoyi Club but I still feel the one at Glover Court tastes better .

Anyway, Madam looked quite relaxed considering her and Fay were busy preparing dishes for the dinner. Instead of jollof rice,  we had white rice and dishes we brought from Malaysia and had ice cream for dessert. I enjoyed the dinner as most of the dishes were prepared by Madam's mum and we deep freeze and flew it to Lagos. It was chicken rendang and 'gulai daging salai' (smoked beef)

seating will be decided by playing
musical chair...hahahah

What we talked about during dinner? Politics...can you imagine. It's bread and butter for all these young urban professionals. I will not elaborate much on the topic, but it was interesting to see how they agree and disagree on certain topics. I can say, current and past leaders were mentioned and   it was discuss with much enthusiasm.

We spoke about Naira (Nigeria's currency). The official and the parallel rate, which the parallel rate had seen US $1 to N380 at one time (heard in radio) and now hovering at N320.

The official rate has been holding steady at about N200 per US $1, by bank..which means its cheaper. But to get the official rate, only companies and corporation can apply and Banks prioritise who gets and who doesn't.

Individuals won't get the bank rate... off to parallel we go. So for companies, they have to apply and if the items requested not in the priority list (for the bank official rate), they won't get it. Thus increase in price of production (buy raw materials with parallel rate). Newspapers had released new price of certain items and with the impending fuel scarcity...other prices, like transportation also will rise.

Anyway, it was an exciting night. Everyone got on well although some opinion on certain issue were different. Still, no chairs were thrown or no pulling hair or cat fights happened that night. Focus was also on Dotun, which is still looking for prospective bride...but to no avail (at the moment). I wish him all the best and reminded him that his unmentionables can also be used for other purpose....not just..ahemmm.....for pee only..hahahahahah. Sorry Dotun, you better hurry up!
